Although I left town for nearly two weeks our remodeling project at Hills of Lone Pine has been progressing.
We moved outside and replaced the old wood fascia and siding. Much of this was weather damaged due to poor maintenance of the roof (which was replaced a couple years ago) and lack of caulking and painting. In redoing this we brought these areas to current standards by adding tyvek building wrap, heavy duty flashing tape around all windows and installing metal flashing where needed to prevent future water penetration.
There was significant rot and water damage where the deck was attached to boxed out bay windows using untreated lumber. So we removed significant portions of the cedar deck, also rotted beyond repair to allow for proper installation of the new materials.
The siding itself is Hardi lap siding that is made from cement and resins, holds paint very well and can stand up to the elements way better than wood. The whole system will be caulked and painted when completed.
