Good old boring concrete can become a quite beautiful and durable flooring when uniform size and shape gravel and color are added and skilled masons install it.

Once it is poured in place and finished like regular concrete the surface cement is gently washed away and the special aggregate is exposed. Once it is set up and cured, it is sealed with a clear sealer that gives it a sheen very similar to how it looked above when it was wet and freshly exposed.

Meanwhile, around front we poured our exposed aggregate porch and the front walk that will allow access to the house from the driveway this winter. While the front walk is the shape and size of the final walk that our landscaper designed for us, it is too late in the season to do the detailed paver edging and exposed aggregate this walk will provide a great base for this work. We left it three inches low so that we can easily install these materials next spring.

We have been making progress inside too – just slower than we would like due to the purchaser – oh yeah, it is really sold now – needing some time to make electrical HVAC and plumbing decisions that need to be incorporated into the work before we insulate and drywall. More on this in our next post.
